A lone figure stood above a group of bodies lying down, sleeping. The silhouette looked around, confused. It was as though the time had stopped, grass bent by a gentle breeze, frozen. The birds in the sky, with their tiny beaks open wide and their wings locked in a single position, for eternity. Then, the figure looked down at its own body, laying on the still grass, broken. All around him, crooked shapes of Pokémon, breathless at the moment the time had halted. The standing silhouette lifted its colourless arm up to its eyes, looking at a piece of shattered rock through it. Then, memories came rushing to him, breathing hard to stay conscious.
Joren was walking among the high stalks of straw, his loyal Pokémon following his every step. Birds flew overhead, their beauiful songs echoing across the valley. Grass was swaying gently in the breeze. Conversation. They were talking, but no sound left their lips. Silence. Awful quiet surrounded the whole area, as though an invisible veil was dropped on it, blocking all noise. The group reached the edge of a cliff, a deep chasm opening beneath them. Some Pokémon retreated, some stayed. They were still talking, and yet no-one said a single thing. Then, suddenly, there was an awful shriek, a roar that shook the whole valley. The group covered their ears, but it didn’t block out the noise. Then, there was a loud cracking sound, and rocks fell off the cliff, tumbling down the canyon. Then, the ground upon which the group stood swayed, and a large piece of the cliff fell off, with them on-board. They were dropping rapidly, the roar accompanying them, until they finally crashed against the chasm floor. They were broken, shattered, not a single breath leaving their mouths. Then, as the shriek subsided, the time stopped with it. Grass was not swaying in the breeze, and the birds’ songs fell silent.
Joren opened his eyes, breathing hard to accomodate the truth of what happened to him. He looked away from his body, staring at the shattered rocks that were scattered around. Then, his spirit was lifted up, carrying him away from the canyon, and even higher. He soared into the sky, until towns and cities became little specks, and the chasm itself was barely visible. Joren then looked up, towards the sky. He pierced through the clouds, entering the space beyond them. He did not know what was ahead of him, but was prepared for everything. Afterall, he had nothing to lose. Not anymore.
